I’m looking for some summer book suggestions. After reading The Lord of the Rings in its entirety, I’m going to need something that’s uplifting, light, funny or sweet – so tell me your favourites and why, and I’ll look them up!

I always recommend “Bossypants” by Tina Fey. It’s funny and light and a quick read. Maybe it’s because I share her same sense of humor, but I thought it was fun and poignant. And if you can’t make fun of yourself, who can you make fun of:)
Definitely Bossypants. Great book, but I’m biased, I love almost everything Tina Fey does :D
Terry Pratchett. Specifically Guards! Guards! He makes fun of all kinds of fantasy tropes, his books are chockful of footnotes and his characters are awesome. Very British humor, but as far as I’m concerned, that’s the best kind :)
Or if you’re in the mood for non-fantasy, P.G. Wodehouse.
Have you checked out the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde? I especially love the first book, “The Jane Affair”. Thursday Next enters the BookWorld (very cool thing to do btw) in order to save Jane Eyre who was kidnapped out of her own book by an evil mastermind. I can only recommend the books, though I think the later ones are not as strong as the first 3 are. Still worth checking out though I think.
I can’t promise they’ll be light but I just posted four book recommendations on my blog: “The Thief” by Megan Whalen Turner, “Friday’s Child” (which IS a fun book) by Georgette Heyer, “Crocodile on the Sandbank” by Elizabeth Peters, and “Assassin’s Apprentice” by Robin Hobb. I love them all immensely.
